HOW WE GOT STARTED - REAL WORLD STRONG
One day on a Friday morning while sitting on the set of the Dave Pratt show I sat next to a gentleman named Jeff. Jeff was gentle yet tough, kind and fierce all at the same time. I made a few comments about the picture Dave displayed about New York, kids having the window cages in the 1920-30's. I said, "Hey that's what my childhood was like", he laughed and said "Yeah mine too." Mentioning again I told him I was serious. He looked at me then asked about my Dare T-Shirt. I explained that I was helping a friend with her business raise money for them. He began to share that he is a retired dare office. I shared that the DARE officer really helped me learn that drugs were wrong and it's okay to not 'approve" of my parents doing them. Just that alone gave me the permission to dislike what was going on inside my home. I didn't dare tell anyone then, however I knew that even the POLICE guy knew it was wrong and it's okay. Because of that moment in time, I felt validated and assured that what confusion inside me was solid - what my parents were doing was wrong. I knew never to tell for the consequences would be horrendous.
As we chatted and shared about how much of an impact that moment had on me and other children he personally helped and mentored an idea was born.
Interestingly enough Dave Pratt asked me to chat with him a bit and share my story. So I did, I told him how I am an overcomer of many things from health scares to my dysfunctional wild upbringing. I shared many years ago, dressing modestly seemed to build my confidence, and that my value is in me, just as I am. I was raised in a Rock N Roll house and conditioned to believe that sexy is how to dress, when in fact it's really about how smart you are! Dave agreed wholeheartedly, so I shared how, my new friend Jeff and I plotted a plan to change the world. We decided that by going to schools him talking about drug resistance and me on a culture of modesty, along with an anti-bulling component we could help influence the 5 & 6 th graders in the valley.
Dave loved the idea and has been a supporter ever since. We came up with a really modern day logo REAL WORLD STRONG!
Because to stand up and out of the crowd, today, showing respect for your body, appearance, and those around you takes a very strong person in the real world. Jeff and I felt that we had achieved that strength given the house holds we grew up in and around.
Jeff & I both had experience drugs, sex, rock & rock - along with many other forms of a dysfunctional home life and the abuse that thrives within those walls. So today as adults we are successful because we did not repeat the patterns we realized we are REAL WORLD WARRIORS & STRONG.
Today in 2018 we are partnering with several others who have a passion for changing our nation - one story at a time.
